World Champion Astros Set Precedents

On Friday, the World Champion Astros became the first MLB origination to equip their entire affiliate system with V-Flex. The move is one that sets a precedent and expresses confidence in implicit training. It also shows their ability to implement scientific principles tied to strike swinging efficiency. Back in 2016 they placed a couple of V-Flex pieces with their Rookie league affiliates. Last season V-Flexes were in Rookie, Single-A and Triple AAA. This season hitting instructors in Fresno, Corpus Christi, Quad City, TriCity, Buies Creek and Spring Training will be throwing BP through V-Flex. Developing hitters at the professional level can be tricky business but by taking some of the subjectivity out of strike zone development the Astros have seen a tremendous turnaround in strike swinging efficiency. Their numbers are solid and getting better. There are several important things taking place within the Astros organization pertaining to strike zone development. Most importantly, they are putting people in training positions that have an incredible zest for learning. They realize there is value in experience but they also recognize the need for flexibility and adaptability by hitting instructors. Modern technologies challenge the status quo in lots of ways forcing them to adapt. The Astros are on to something special and we're glad to be a small part of their quest for another World Championship.
